Normanston Grove Orchard and Treehouse
This splendid orchard is always open to the local people of Oxton-On-The-Wold (whenever it appears, of course!) to come and help themselves to a basket or two of magnificent Mad Wirral Bohemian Braeburns.
These apples are the true marvel of this area, being particularly large, soft, crunchy and extremely juicy with a sweet, tangy zest, a distinct golden peach colour - and have the unique quality of being in fruit almost all year through.
Along with the adjoining copse of pear trees, small vineyard enclosure and plentiful wild berry hedges, these fruits have formed the basis of the now much sought after Mad Wirral Bohemian Fruity Tooty Tipples.
The crowning glory of the whole orchard is the magnificent tree house nestled in the massive old english oak tree that rises above all the others. It builds up, level upon level along its great twisting boughs, through the dense, perennially leafy branches in several directions in rickety magical splendour.
It is a top-secret gang hideout to the castle's children; Ellie, Ollie and Benny, who play there with their huge springer spaniel; Samuel Eddison - who can't climb the rope ladder so has to sleep-guard in the shade while waiting - mostly!
He has, on occasion however, had the indignity of being winched up by ropes and a lot of determination, but the general belief is that he is much happier down on the ground !
The main inhabitants of the tree house have tended to be the proficient society of faerie folk who began their revered production of orchard infusions some centuries ago in this very place and now happily share with the Bohemians.
